Why do I need business insurance?

The simple answer is to protect you and your business. Depending on the type of insurance you buy you will be protected by claims made against you by members of the public, employees or customers. Commercial insurance can cover the costs of defending and settling compensation claims, and guard against costs associated with cyber attacks and other crimes. In addition, a business insurance policy can protect you following loss or damage to property and subsequent loss of revenue or profit.

For some professionals, particular types of business insurance are a mandatory requirement of members of professional or regulatory bodies. Holding commercial insurance is also almost obligatory when entering into a contract. Freelancers or others offering their services via a third party agency will also find they need to demonstrate they possess some forms of insurance.

Meadow Broking make business insurance simple

If you’ve been looking into insurance for your company, then you already know how many different choices are available. These are just some of the options that we can help you with.

What Our Clients Say

5.0 Stars - Based on 3 Customer Reviews

Public Liability Insurance

What is public liability insurance?

Public liability cover protects you from the costs associated with legal claims made by members of the public due to an incident caused by your business. These are incidents that result in injury, loss or damage to property, or even death. The claimants may also be customers, but they don’t have to be.

Business Insurance

Policies could cover incidents that occur on your business premises or incidents that occur elsewhere, such as in a customer’s home or workplace, outdoors or at an event. Public liability insurance doesn’t cover claims due to a professional mistake, such as bad advice, for that you need professional indemnity insurance.

Who needs public liability insurance?

Any business, including sole traders, who interact with the public will need public liability insurance. This is true whether they visit you, you visit them or you meet at another place such as an exhibition. In some circumstances, for example exhibiting at a trade show, you may well be asked to demonstrate the level of public liability insurance that you hold. Whether you are a large, limited company or are self-employed, public liability insurance can protect you.

Employers Liability Insurance

What is employers liability insurance?

Employers’ liability insurance protects you from claims made by employees who become ill or are injured as a result of the work they do. This insurance helps cover the cost of any compensation awarded if an employer is found guilty of negligence, as well as covering legal fees.

Business Insurance

Who needs employers liability insurance?

The Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) 1969 legally requires almost all employers to have insurance cover of at least £5 million. There are a few exceptions, such as sole traders who only employ a family member or employing a person based outside England, Scotland and Wales (Please see link for exceptions: Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969 – HSE.) Insurance must be provided by an authorised insurer. A substantial fine is payable for every day that you are not insured.

Business Interruption Insurance

What is business interruption insurance?

Business interruption insurance covers loss of income suffered during times when you can’t trade due to an unexpected event. This might be because of damage to your business premises or damage to equipment. You may also be covered if customers cannot reach your business premises or if damage to a suppliers’ premises impacts your business. Business interruption insurance does not cover a sole trader who can’t trade because they are ill or injured.

Business Insurance

Who needs business interruption insurance?

Business interruption insurance isn’t a legal requirement, but can benefit any company with physical premises or assets such as machinery.
